
Christie Maturo grew up in central New Jersey, and as a child split her time between trips into New York City and walking the boardwalk “down the Jersey shore.” She now holds a BS in theatre and sign language from Towson University, a secondary English teaching credential from CSUB, spent a summer studying with the Moscow Art Theatre in Russia, and has a Master’s Degree in Fine Arts from NIU. She is a graduate of the Second City Conservatory program, a certified Meisner teacher, and a teacher candidate with the National Michael Chekhov Association where she trains as an actor and director. Christie is also a proud member of Actor’s Equity Association and the Screen Actor's Guild.
Christie enjoys all aspect of performing, but specializes in character acting, physical comedy, and improvisation. She sharpened her skills performing with the repertory theatre The Gaslight Melodrama and Music Hall, and spent a number of years working on her improv skills performing in Tony n’ Tina’s Wedding. She has also performed in musicals, classic and dramatic works in theatres across the country.
As a Meisner trained actor, Christie strives to live truthfully in each moment of performance. She is well versed in dialect work, heightened text, and various style work from the Elizabethans through the 20th century. Her movement work is routed in the Alexander Technique, Williamson, and Chekhov. She also has interests in voice over work, teaching, and directing. Currently, Christie is Professor of Theatre at Midwestern State University.
